Miller will be responsible for making new contacts with large firms in the United States to establish successful leads for the licensing of intellectual property. He also will be a member of the newly established Licensing Strategy Council, which was established to review Energy Systems licensing strategy for technology groups.
Since joining the Office of Technology Transfer in 1991, Miller has held the position of licensing executive. In this capacity, he was responsible for technology licensing and for developing cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs) in the areas of electronics and information technology.
He attended Stetson University in Florida and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics and an ROTC commission in 1973. He was awarded a master's degree in physics from the University of Virginia in 1977. After serving in the Army as a missile maintenance officer in a Pershing missile battalion, and later an intelligence officer, Miller joined Martin Orlando Aerospace as an electro-optical systems analyst. Before coming to Oak Ridge, he was manager of Advanced Programs for Special Projects in Orlando.
Miller, his wife Terri, and their daughters Erin and Shelley are residents of Oak Ridge.
Martin Marietta Energy Systems manages Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge K-25 and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant for the Department of Energy.
