ORNL researcher named visiting professor

C.T. Liu, a senior corporate fellow of Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation and a researcher in the Metals and Ceramics Division of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been appointed a visiting professor at Zhejaing University in Hangzhou, China.

The Chinese Ministry of Education ranks Zhejaing third among the nation's many universities.

Liu, a group leader in ORNL's Alloying and Behavior Design Group, has studied mechanical properties of intermetallic alloys and other high-temperature structural materials. Liu is also an honorable professor at the Beijing University of Science and Technology.

Science Watch magazine in 1995 ranked Liu as the fifth most highly cited author among publishers of papers in all journals of materials science and metallurgy from 1990 to 1994. Nineteen patents were granted from 1973 to 1996 based on his research.

Liu received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University and a master's degree and doctorate in engineering and materials science from Brown University.

He and his wife, Ta-Chang, reside in Oak Ridge. They have two children, Evelyn and Kent.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
