David C Anderson

David Anderson is the Systems Engineering and Integration Lead for the Second Target Station (STS) Project. He is responsible for coordinating the systems engineering and integration of all technical systems and subsystems for the STS. He previously managed the STS Instrument Engineering group, which is responsible for the engineering design, fabrication and installation of the neutron instruments and shielding bunkers. Before coming to the STS, David was the Group Leader for Instrument Engineering in the Neutron Sciences Directorate, which included Engineers, Designers and Technicians in the Instrument Design, Design Services, Survey, Alignment, and Metrology, and Neutron Choppers Teams. He came to the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) in 2008 to be the Lead Engineer for the HYSPEC beamline project and was later the Lead Engineer for the IMAGINE beamline at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR). He came to ORNL from Honda R&D Americas through Siemens Medical Imaging and is a registered Professional Engineer.

David has been heavily involved in the Design and Engineering of Neutron Instruments Meeting (DENIM) since its inception in 2012. He was a founder of the International Society of Neutron Instrument Engineers (ISNIE) and served as its first President from 2017 to 2020.

David holds three patents, all pending, associated with his involvement in developing a process to additively manufacture collimators and other devices for neutron scattering instruments from Boron Carbide and other neutron absorbing materials.
