Rob Howard is a Senior Project Manager in the Used Fuel Systems Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory where they are focused on developing and providing science-based engineering solutions, nuclear safety analysis capabilities, and technical leadership and support for the safe, secure, and effective management and disposition of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and high-level radioactive waste (HLW). Rob is the Deputy National Technical Director of the Integrated Waste Management System Project for DOE-NE’s Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition; he is responsible for the management and technical integration of researchers and engineers from five national laboratories and multiple contractors working on national issues related to storage, transportation, and systems analysis and development of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste.  Rob has over 25 years of technical and project management experience related to design, licensing, and operations of nuclear and radioactive waste management facilities. Past experience includes the development and submittal of the license application for Yucca Mountain High Level Radioactive Waste Repository, and the development of hazard analyses, risk assessments, and systems design and analyses related to waste acceptance, monitored retrievable storage, transportation, and mined geologic disposal.  He holds a B.S. Electrical Engineering and an M.A. in English from Virginia Tech and an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
