Torikul Islam

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr. Torikul Islam is a post-doctoral associate in the Biosciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Currently he is working on single cell RNA-seq, genome engineering, multiple gene stacking and traits improvement in poplar, synthetic biology and plant biodesign research related projects including developing of populus stable transformation, application of CRIPSR gene editing in poplar, development of tissue(cell) specific promoters for gene regulation and gene engineering.

Dr. Islam earned his Ph. D. in Biotechnology from National Chung Hsing University and Academia Sinica, Taiwan in 2021. While conducting doctoral research on the "Epigenetic regulation and seedling development", he established the H3K4me3 is involved in crucial stage in Arabidopsis seedling development in very early stage. He pursued his Master degree from University of Santiago De Compostela, Spain. After graduating, he joined as "OPS research scientist" at University of Florida.

Dr. Islam has extensive experience in plant molecular biological research. Currently, he is leading two independent CBI projects as well as few collaborative projects at ORNL. For collaboration and discuss about research related topic you are highly encouraged to contact me though email
